PASTOR JOHNSON'S 1ST SUNDAY MESSAGE 5.6.2018

"REACHING GOD'S CHILDREN" (SCRIPTURES FROM LIVING BIBLE)

Pastor Johnson’s message came from Deuteronomy 11:13-21, Psalm 34:11-22, Proverbs 4:11-27, and Matthew 18:1-6.  The topic was “Reaching God’s Children” with the following sub topics:

“Being an Example”

And if you will carefully obey all of his commandments that I am going to give you today, and if you will love the Lord your God with all your hearts and souls and will worship him, then he will continue to send both the early and late rains that will produce wonderful crops of grain, grapes for your wine, and olive oil. He will give you lush pastureland for your cattle to graze in, and you yourselves shall have plenty to eat and be full content. But beware that your hearts do not turn from God to worship other gods. For if you do, the anger of the Lord will be hot against you, and he will shut the heavens-there will be no rain and no harvest, and you will quickly perish from the good land the Lord has given you. So keep these commandments carefully in mind. Tie them to your hand to remind you to obey them, and tie them to your forehead between your eyes! Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are sitting at home, when you are out walking, at bedtime, and before breakfast! Write them upon the doors of your houses and upon your gates, so that as long as there is sky above the earth, you and your children will enjoy the good life awaiting you in the land the Lord has promised you.

“Accepting the Directions”

Sons and daughters, come and listen and let me teach you the importance of trusting and fearing the Lord. Do you want a long, good life? Then watch your tongue! Keep your lips from lying. Turn from all known sin and spend your time in doing good. Try to live in peace with everyone; work hard at it. For the eyes of the Lord are intently watching all who live good lives, and he gives attention when they cry to him. But the Lord has made up his mind to wipe out even the memory of evil men from the earth. Yes, the Lord hears the good man when he calls to him for help and saves him out of all his troubles. The Lord is close to those whose hearts are breaking; he rescues those who are humbly sorry for their sins. The good man does not escape all troubles-he has them too. But the Lord helps him in each and every one. Not one of his bones is broken. Calamity will surely overtake the wicked; heavy penalties are meted out to those who hate the good. But as for those who serve the Lord, he will redeem them; everyone who takes refuge in him will be freely pardoned.

“The Results”

I would have you learn this great fact: that a life of doing right is the wisest life there is. If you live that kind of life, you’ll not limp or stumble as you run. Carry out my instructions; don’t forget them, for they will lead you to real living. Don’t do as the wicked do. Avoid their haunts-turn away, go somewhere else, for evil men can’t sleep until they’ve done their evil deed for the day. They can’t rest unless they cause someone to stumble and fall. They eat and drink wickedness and violence! But the good man walks along in the ever-brightening light of God’s favor; the dawn gives way to morning splendor, while the evil man gropes and stumbles in the dark. Listen, son of mine, to what I say. Listen carefully. Keep these thoughts ever in mind; let them penetrate deep within your heart, for they will mean real life for you and radiant health. Above all else guard your affections. For they influence everything else in your life.

“For All”

About that time the disciples came to Jesus to ask which of them would be greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven! Jesus called a small child over to him and set the little fellow down among them, and said, unless you turn to God from your sins and become as little children, you will NEVER get into the Kingdom of Heaven. Therefore anyone who humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven. And any of you who welcome a little child like this because you are mine is welcoming me and caring for me. But if any of you causes one of these little ones who trusts in me lose his faith, it would be better for you to have a rock tied to your neck and be thrown into the sea.

Read the scriptures and be blessed!
