PASTOR JOHNSON 1ST SUNDAY MESSAGE (6/5/16)

Posted by: Shirley Smith on Mon, Jun 6, 2016

"RESPECT YOUR ELDERS"

Pastor Johnson’s message came from Exodus 21:15-17, 2 Kings 2:19-24 and Revelations 5:6-12.  The topic was “Respect for Elders” with the following sub topics:

“Respect for Mother and Father”

Exodus 20:12 tells us to Honor thy Mother and Father so thy days may be long…  In our society today, we teach our children not to respect anybody. So therefore, we have lost them. We took God out of the house and there is no structure in the house. A child should be in a child’s place. If you raise your hand at your Mother or Father take him out and be put to death as per the Old Testament in Exodus 21:15. A child is supposed to fear their parents like you fear God. If your curse your Mother and Father you should be put to death. Also, Leviticus 19:32 said when an older person comes into a room; the younger person should stand up. Respect your elders.

“Consequences for Disrespecting”

A story was told about a place where the water was bad and the women could not have children. The water was healed. Little children came and disrespect Elisha. Elisha looked back and cursed them in the name of the Lord. The children were killed, 42 of them, by bears instantly because they did not respect him as an elder neither his position. There are consequences behind disrespecting.

1 Timothy 5:1-2 said do not rebuke an elder. If they are wrong or you don’t like what they say,  go ahead and do it. Respect the elder as you will a Father and younger men as your brother. Respect the elder women as your Mother and younger women as your sisters.

 “The Importance”

Elders are in heaven too. The job of the elders are to direct the younger people. Jesus was in the midst of the elders. We are to respect our elders and don’t question them. Do what they ask you to do. Don’t question God’s words. God is trying to help us to eternal kingdom.

Read the scriptures and be blessed!
