"FOLLOW ME"
Pastor Johnson’s message came from Mark 1:16-20, Luke 9:57-62, Colossians 2:8-10, and 1 Peter 2:21-24. The subject was “Follow Me” with the following subtopics:
“RESPONDING TO THE CALL”
As Jesus was walking by the shore of the Sea of Galilee, He saw the sea; for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men. Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. Going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John, who were also in the boat mending and cleaning the nets. Immediately Jesus called to them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired workers, and went away to follow Him.
“EXACTING DISCIPLESHIP”
As they were going along the road, someone said to Him, I will follow You wherever You go. And Jesus told him, Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head. He said to another, Follow Me. But he said, Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father. But He said to him, allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and spread the news about the kingdom of God. Another also said, I will follow You, Lord; but first let me say good bye to those at my home. But Jesus said to him, No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God. What’s first in your life? Whoever does not carry his own cross and follow after Me cannot be My disciple. Are you a disciple?
“GOD’S WORD IS TRUTH”
See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of mere men, following the elementary principles of this world, rather than following Christ. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form. And in Him you have been made complete. This is why I suffer as I do. Still, I am not ashamed; for I know Him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that He is able to guard that which I have entrusted to Him until. Keep and follow the pattern of sound teaching which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. Guard and keep unchanged, the treasure which has been entrusted to you about salvation through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
“CHRIST IS OUR EXAMPLE”
For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you may follow in His footsteps. He committed no sin, nor was deceit ever found in His mouth. While being reviled and insulted, He did not revile or insult in return; while suffering, He made no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges the cross, so that we might die to sin and life for righteousness; for by His wounds you have been healed. (Do you believe?)
